Antara is a personal happiness tracking app. The data you enter is yours. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, where it goes, and how to delete it.
Who We Are

What Data We Collect
Data you enter directly
- Daily check-in scores (1–10), mood ratings, and free-text notes
- The display name or nickname you choose for your profile
- Weekly reflections
- Assessment responses (the pairwise gut test and the 50-question quiz) and your resulting happiness source rankings
- Names or nicknames of important people you choose to tag
- Routines and recovery protocols you create
- Questions you ask the AI assistant and recent conversation context while that conversation is open
Account data
On first launch the app creates an anonymous account with a random ID — no email required. If you later choose to save your progress, we store the display name or nickname you entered, your verified email address, or your Apple or Google account identifier. Sign-in is passwordless — we never see or store a password.
Subscription data
Whether you have an active subscription, which plan, and when it renews or expires. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your payment card details.
Usage and analytics data
Optional analytics is off until you enable it during onboarding or under Profile → Optional analytics. You can turn it off again at any time. When enabled, we collect:
- App events (e.g., screens visited, features used, errors encountered)
- Device type, OS version, and app version
- Analytics profile properties: your user ID, your email (if you provided one), your current state, and your top happiness sources
Written notes, reflections, assessment answers, AI questions, and important-people names are not sent to PostHog. We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone input, advertising identifiers, Apple Health data, or device-sensor data. Antara does not use HealthKit or connect to health devices. Your self-reported mood and wellbeing entries are stored in Antara's own database.
How We Use Your Data
- To deliver the app's core features (check-ins, assessments, insights, reflections)
- To generate your personal insights, including AI-powered insights (see below)
- To improve the app based on usage patterns and fix problems
- To respond to support requests
- To send product updates if you joined our waitlist (you can unsubscribe at any time)
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.
AI Features
AI is optional and off until you explicitly turn it on in the app. You can turn it off again under Profile → AI features. While it is off, Antara makes no new requests containing your data to Anthropic or OpenAI.
When you choose an AI feature, the relevant information is sent from our backend to Anthropic (Claude) and, where semantic search is needed, OpenAI. Depending on the feature this can include check-in scores and mood, source rankings, relevant notes and reflections, names or nicknames you added for important people, routine text, your question, and up to five recent messages in that conversation. Monthly themes can use relevant writing from the preceding 30 days, including entries written before you enabled AI, but only after you have enabled it.
Some organizing and monthly-theme features are available to permanent free accounts; AI-written personal insights and asking questions about your data require Pro. Provider API keys never ship in the app. We retain per-account token counts for rate limiting, but the Ask Anything conversation itself is not saved as a chat transcript in our database. Under our API agreements with these providers, submitted data is not used to train their models.

Your data is processed in the regions listed above. By using Antara you consent to this processing. All connections are encrypted in transit.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account from inside the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion removes your account and associated check-ins, reflections, assessments, insights, and protocols from the production database. Encrypted disaster-recovery backups age out under our infrastructure provider's retention schedule and are not used for ordinary product access.
Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Access your data — it is visible in the app, and you can email us for a full copy
- Correct any data by updating it in the app
- Delete your account and all associated data from within the app

GDPR (EU/UK residents)
You have additional rights including the right to restrict processing and the right to data portability. Email optimizeforhappiness@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
CCPA (California residents)
We do not sell personal information. You have the right to know what data we collect and to request deletion. Contact optimizeforhappiness@gmail.com.
Data Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Database access is protected by row-level security policies, so each account can only read its own rows through the app.
Children's Privacy
Antara is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
